European Grand Prix: Yay and Nay.

June 25, 2012 in F1, Yay and Nay

Valencia isn’t generally considered the most exciting race on the calendar due to the difficulty drivers have trying to overtake; however Formula 1 2012 worked its magic around the streets of Valencia and provided us with a brilliant and nerve-shattering race.

Yay:

Fernando Alonso;  Things may have looked dismal for the Spaniard after qualifying in 11th place on a track where overtaking isn’t common place, but as many Formula 1 fans will tell you; you can never rule Fernando Alonso out, regardless of where he starts.

Alonso fought hard to make his way up through the pack and took full advantage of the safety car and Sebastian Vettel’s retirement.  He then went on to take the win and in a moment which I believe will become iconic to his career;  stopped his car on track (which was probably more to do with having spare fuel) and spent a few moments celebrating with the marshalls and the crowd.

Ferrari have come on leaps and bounds since the start of the season, Fernando truly deserved and worked hard for the win today and became the first man of the 2012 season to win two races. Read the rest of this entry →

Were Ferrari Too Quick To Judge Sergio Perez?

June 22, 2012 in F1

Sergio Perez then, a driver that is seemingly doing himself a world of favours this season after two incredibly strong podium finishes which look set to raise his reputation as a world class driver through the roof. So when it came to hearing news that Ferrari cautioned him after the difficult Monaco Grand Prix weekend for his “aggressive driving” it got most of the F1 circus a bit perplexed.

Now let’s not forget that this is a driver that is famous for his tyre management skills and 1 stop strategies, not exactly something you would necessarily associate with an aggressive style, so it leads us to ask this – Were Ferrari right in their decision to talk to Perez? What’s the cause of Jenson’s problems?

Canada 2012 – a race that produced an extremely positive and an extremely negative result for McLaren, which left not only left a lot of head scratching for Jenson Button to do, but also a left a very sour taste in his mouth after he watched his team-mate claim a fantastic victory in the sister McLaren, while after a difficult afternoon found himself down in a lowly 16th place. So what exactly went wrong for Jenson and where has his pace escaped to? Read the rest of this entry →

Canadian Grand Prix: Yay or Nay.

June 14, 2012 in Canadian Grand Prix, F1 2012

As the lights went out at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada, many fans were wondering whether or not we’d see a seventh winner in just as many races.

70 Laps later, we had the answer to our question as Lewis Hamilton stood on the top step of the podium to claim his first victory of the year.

Now the excitement of the race is over, let’s take a look at the ‘Yay’s and Nay’s of the Canadian Grand Prix.

YAY

Formula 1; In Monaco Mark Webber made history by becoming the sixth winner in six races, the 2012 season continued to make history as Lewis Hamilton was crowned the seventh different winner in seven races.

The question many fans are now asking is whether we will see an eight different winner in Valencia. I’d love to see an eighth winner myself and it’s not like we’re running out of potential winners either. Read the rest of this entry →

Circuit Gilles Villenueve – The Scene For F1 history?

Circuit Gilles Villenueve – The Scene For F1 History? A Canadian GP Preview By James And Rosie.

James from Official Merchandise

This weekend see’s Formula 1 yet again grace the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in what is turning out to be one of the most exciting season’s in Formula 1 history. With the possibility of 7 different winners’ in 7 races after the 70 laps around Montreal, this season would go down in folklore as the most open start to a Formula 1 season ever.

Ahead of the Grand Prix this weekend me and James Parker from Official Merchandise joined forces to give a joint

preview ahead of the action this weekend, and what we can expect from the race come Sunday.

The Gilles Villeneuve circuit has always been a firm favourite of fans for many years,

since the days of Alain Prost, Nigel Mansell and Ayrton Senna wrestling the hugely scary turbo F1 cars around its narrow but extremely fast set up. With features such as the last chicane (wall of champions) which has claimed many scalps over its time including 7 time World Champion Michael Schumacher, and its hugely long back straight, it provides the perfect combination of pure bare knuckle action and ultra fast lap times.

Looking back on last year’s race.
Last year’s race was possibly one of the most thrilling and exhausting races in the history of Formula 1. Not only was it the longest ever recorded race at 4 hours and 4 minutes due to a heavy rainstorm delaying proceedings, it also featured a storming drive from the back of the grid from a certain Jenson Button who, on the last lap managed to overtake reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel. It was a script that if written before the race, everybody would have laughed at, but led to it being the highlight of the 2011 F1 season. Read the rest of this entry →

2012 Drivers Wages: What Do You Think?

June 3, 2012 in F1

If the drivers wages were a race, Fernando Alonso would be standing on the top step of the podium and picking up 25 points. The Spaniard is paid a hefty £24 Million a year, roughly double second place Lewis Hamilton who earns £12.9 Million.

Interestingly, there are only three teams who pay their drivers an equal wage; Red Bull Racing, McLaren and Toro Rosso. Of course, drivers will get bonuses on top of their yearly salary, so performing well will pay off, quite literally.

Within the remaining teams, there’s a large and noticeable difference between the wages of their drivers. The largest difference is at Ferrari, where Felipe Massa earns £16 Million less than Fernando Alonso.

Despite all his years of experience and seven world championships behind him, Michael Schumacher earns less than Nico Rosberg, who only has one race win to his name.  Read the rest of this entry →

An Open Letter To The Formula Troll Store.

June 1, 2012 in F1

Dear the Formula 1 Store,

Thank you for making my day.

The other day I ordered Sebastian Vettel’s RB7 and when I returned home today I was greeted by a package.  Eagerly, I opened it, excited to get my paws on the RB7.

However, something wasn’t quite right when I removed it from the packaging.

Well played guys, well played. I won’t lie, I laughed. I’m impressed by how far your willing to go to troll your customers.

I won’t be complaining and it’s too much effort to send it back. It cost a tenner in the first place, to send it back to you under recorded delivery will probably cost a fiver, so it’s really not worth it.

Plus I have an amusing story behind it now.

However, had I spent more than a tenner on it, I’d probably be annoyed. So please limit your trolling to a tenner.

Yours sincerely,

Rosie.
